The Treasure of Zanzibar: X Marks the Spot

The Pirate Master treasure is ultimately $1 million, but unlike other reality shows it isn't all given away at the end of the show--contestants can earn up to $500,000 in gold coins (Spanish dubloons) in the episodes leading up to the finale.

Here's what we know so far about the chest, derived from the Legend of Henry Steel:

1. The Chest of Zanzibar had fifteen compartments, and each compartment hid one of the treasures.
2. The captain's keys to the chest were destroyed.
3. The only keys to the compartment that exist now are found within the treasures themselves: Finding one treasure opens another compartment, which leads to another treasure, and so on.
4. The treasure could only be found in a particular order, and lead to the largest treasure.
5. In the fifteenth and final compartment, Steel was to place a map of the entire island with an ‘x’ on every spot where treasures of gold were buried.
6. The pirate crew hid their shares of the treasure near Souffriere Bay, using a combination of maps, clues, codes, decoys and booby traps to throw off treasure seekers.
7. Each pirate collected a variety of tools and trinkets that would assist in finding the buried gold.
