It said that his parents moved to port Au Prince ,Haite to avoid the spanish inquisition. He was later raised in a kosher Jewish household and later married Cristianna Levine. |

| Notable battles: At three separate times in U.S. history, presidents have condemned, applauded and again condemned his actions. He is known for his piracy, or "privateering" as he preferred to call it, in the Gulf of Mexico. He was also a hero in the Battle of New Orleans. |

More Detailed Bio
very little is known, most of what is known is myth/ legend and likely laced with hyperbole. Many books, and films have been based on his life and alleged exploits. What little is known is that he lived, he was French, he provided men and materiel to Andrew Jackson, he ran a legitimate business as a cover for his piracy with his brother Pierrre, and at some point he died.
