The Triad is the self-given name of the alliance formed between Azmyth, Jay, and Ben when Azmyth was elected Captain for the second time and subsequently selected Jay and Ben as his Officers.

From that point on, the Triad has consistently been the most powerful alliance in Pirate Master. With all three members holding positions within the captaincy, this alliance has been able to hand-pick members of the crew they would like to see eliminated and assign them a Black Mark.

Because the Officers always compete alongside their Captain (on the Black Team), this alliance has not had to compete against itself in expeditions up to this date. Also, since all three members represent some of the strongest physical threats in the game, they have maintained their undefeated status against the Red Team as of the last aired episode (Episode 7).

The Triad is known for their ruthless competitive strategies, and reasonably equitable profit-sharing policies. Unlike previous captaincies before them, the Triad (with Azmyth as the figurehead) has neither hoarded the lion's share of the winnings for themselves (as in Joe Don's captaincy) nor divided them completely equally among the crew (as in Louie's captaincy). Rather, they have adopted a 60% / 40% arrangement whereby they withold the majority of the gold yet still manage to share a significant amount of the remainder with their winning team members.

Recently the Triad (speaking through Azmyth) started to assign more deck duties to crew members they perceived as greater physical threats in future expeditions. (i.e., Louie and Joe Don) Their strategy in this case has been to tire out pirates before expeditions such that they are unlikely to pose as great a threat during expeditions. So far this strategy has proven successful.

The Triad's greatest threat might perhaps come from within. Jay has already expressed his willingness to break with the alliance should his interests be served elsewhere. Azmyth and Ben, however, appear to be unaware of Jay's intentions.

The threat of Mutiny is the greatest obstacle that faces the Triad today. Should Jay and Ben choose to break their alliance with Azmyth and cut him adrift, the Triad will effectively come to an end.
